Ward 4 Mutual Aid is powered by neighbors. Whether you can volunteer every week, once a month, or just a few times a year, there’s a place for you in our community.
Join a team to help organize grocery distributions, unhoused outreach, cash assistance, communications, on boarding, dispatch, or other behind-the-scenes efforts. New volunteers can complete our volunteer interest form to receive an on boarding packet and be added to our Slack community, where you’ll find volunteer opportunities, event updates, and ways to connect with fellow organizers.
Stay connected by following us on Instagram for meetups and community events where you can get to know other neighbors interested in mutual aid. You can also join our listserv to receive occasional requests for translation assistance, delivery drivers, sourcing specific supplies, and other one-time volunteer opportunities.
Want to help but can’t join a team right now?
There are plenty of ways to support Ward 4 Mutual Aid on your own or with friends, family, coworkers, or other community groups:
- Host a bake sale, happy hour, party, or other fundraiser to benefit Ward 4 Mutual Aid.
- Organize a coat, backpack, diaper, menstrual product, or canned food drive.
- Assemble a Move-In Kit with gently used towels, dishware, kitchen utensils, a dish drying rack, and other household essentials for neighbors moving into stable housing.
- Purchase needed items from our Amazon Wishlist.
- Host a hygiene kit packing event using National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) recommendations.
- Organize a 72-hour emergency preparedness kit packing night with friends and neighbors.
- Create zines, flyers, or other educational materials highlighting local resources or mutual aid and community organizing.
If you or your group would like to organize one of these activities—or have another idea—we’d love to hear from you. Email us at dcward4mutualaid@gmail.com so we can coordinate current needs, deliveries, and storage capacity. Together, we can make sure your efforts have the greatest impact.
