Hi neighbor!
It’s us, Ward 4 Mutual Aid, your local group of people who live in or near DC’s Ward 4, who are helping one another address needs during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Since March we’ve worked to build connections during this distanced time. From posting fliers around Ward 4, to our telephone help line, to our in-person distribution work, a Slack group, Twitter feed, and a huge network of relationships with one another, we’re slowly building our own infrastructure to keep each other safe.
Today we’re adding two new ways to stay connected: a new website and this email list.
You can visit the new website at ward4mutualaid.org. This will be a more permanent home for information about food distribution hours, what donations are needed, and how you can get involved.
This email list will serve a similar purpose. Our community members often share ideas, needs, resources, learnings, stories, and inspiration and we want anyone curious about mutual aid to be able to participate. Since you’ve been part of Ward 4 Mutual Aid in the past we’ve added you to the list.
In creating these channels we acknowledge two conflicting truths: that more formal sources of information will help more people find Ward 4 Mutual Aid and get involved, and that neighbors who get information in places other than the internet will not be reached by either of these. We are adding these resources in addition to several other ways we are staying connected right now.
This is for our community, by our community. Have ideas, resources, events, community needs, or other things that we could signal-boost? Tell us about it! Contact us at info@ward4mutualaid.org or (202) 681-3098.
Stay safe and stay connected to your neighbors this week.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Ward 4 Mutual Aid
